Another remembrance. This from the regional nature/land conservancy where the house described above is situated: https://www.greenfoothills.org/green-foothills-remembers-donald-w-aitken-jr-1936-2022/ The Green Foothills community was saddened to learn of the passing of Donald W Aitken, Jr, one of ou...

Re: Handsome Chinese resort employs local crafts
I agree about the windows in the stone. As is, the message given is stone veneer or hidden steel angles at the window heads. Instead of the lintel appearing to bear on nothing, the concrete or stone should visually extend beyond the clear opening to “bear” on the masonry to either side.

Re: Handsome Chinese resort employs local crafts
Exceptional siting and use of a minimum palette of materials!
My mind's eye keeps wanting to have the fenestration completely fill the spaces between the heavy timber members rather than unitized windows set in an infill of wood siding.....either all glass or all opaque in each instance.

Re: FLLW Cooke House on the market (Virginia Beach, VA)
Cooke is a unique blend of a radial grid hemicycle with a diamond grid bedroom wing, on a very desirable, though at times vulnerable site. A neat house to say the least...the Bermuda roofing is a treat. Pictures 7 and 8 at this link show an evening pic with what appears to be subterranean room benea...

I believe the exterior colors of the house are indicative of the original intent for the interior. Thankfully, the exterior hasn’t been “updated”.

A series of construction photos by Sam Falk of the NYTimes....it should be noted Falk wasn't an architectural photographer, but he admirably captured the essence of the place and Wright within it.

Re: Sure, we can call anything "Frank Lloyd Wright"
Thanks for that effort SDR. Oenoke is a name in the addresses of a number modern houses in New Canaan. My first inclination was to check HistoricAerials.com to see if 1234 was the site of a tear down. Per my review, the site appears to be a subdivided “flag lot” carved out (clear cut) of a mature wo...

Re. 1234 Oenoke Ridge:
I couldn’t find any “authentic Frank Lloyd Wright doors” in the photos, not that they would make sense in this house.

If I had a place for them here, I'd snap them up. The wood tone and the design would compliment the architecture and the MCM furniture at Sweeton.

Re: Video: Hugh Downs interview w/ Wright (1958)
Interesting. At the opening, when Downs asks Wright about a photo of house in a book, the camera shows the house to be the Cheney house. Wright describes the house as his home and studio on Forest Ave. Either the camera focused on the wrong page, or Wright couldn’t see without glasses, or Wright cho...

Re: Christopher Alexander, 1936-2022
From my reading, the point of Alexander’s work was not about looks, beauty, or torturous academic architectural theory. It was about learning to see and recognize what in the built environment, not necessarily designed by architects, works well and “feels” like a place where one wants to be, and usi...

Re: eBay: Mid Century Modern End/Side Tables Attributed To Frank Lloyd Wright
These look similar to something I’ve seen before...a Heritage Henredon-esque character, but no dentil’d edge bead. There is a coffee table in the H-H collection with the turn-down top.
Given the SF location, might these be by Aaron Green or another Taliesin ex-patriot?

Re: Prairie style house
The asking price is $150/sf...I doubt it could be built for that. The house was an honest effort that appears to have fallen on hard times...retirement dream house that requires more maintenance than can be addressed by the owner?
The plastic sheeting at the dining room ceiling gives me pause.
