Re: Article: "15 Iconic Buildings That Should Never Have Been Demolished"
The Marlborough-Blenheim Hotel in Atlantic City NJ was demolished in 1978. Garry Marshall’s “Beaches” was filmed in 1987-1988. It was not an actual filming location. Still, a building that could have been renovated and used as part of a larger complex. I’d add LHS’s Schiller Building and Theater to ...

Re: Article: Saving the "Purple Cow"
It would appear that the agreement with the new operators of the proposed facility downtown places significant barriers to the VW’s ability to present shows. The agreement even funnels VW revenue to the new venture. According to the op-Ed, the flood risk is no different at the new location than the ...

Re: For sale: Fay Jones' Reed House - West Fork, AK
I’m led to believe the price is greatly influenced by the large acreage in the sale.
The house is relatively modest for a Jones house but a masterful result in any case. I hope the house finds a sympathetic new owner, and that any development that surrounds it doesn’t spoil it or its setting.

The Arnold house and the Thaxton house are both variations on a theme. The Arnold house has the visible beams, the Thaxton house doesn’t. From the drawings available on the Avery website it is shown that the roof framing sections differ between the two houses. The Thaxton house, which has no protrud...

A well made piece on the program. A book from the 1980’s about the bank: https://www.amazon.com/Curve-Arch-Story-Sullivans-Owatonna/dp/0873511824 Another book from the 1980’s about this and the other late career banks by Sullivan: https://www.amazon.com/Louis-H-Sullivan-Lauren-Weingarden/dp/0262231301

Re: Article: Bartlesville Community Center celebrating 40 years
I toured “The Center” in 1992. It is a large and complex building that has an elegantly clear circulation system, a large yet intimate main theater, and the building’s outward form knits itself well to its urban context.

Re: For sale: William Wesley Peters house - (Elm Grove, WI)
This looks like a great house, I wish a plan was available...possibly OA+D might remedy that with their new website in the future. It would appear the wood trim was painted at some point, the bathrooms redone with white paint on the brick, and the windows replaced. The bent corner windows were not a...

Re: Handsome Chinese resort employs local crafts
I agree about the windows in the stone. As is, the message given is stone veneer or hidden steel angles at the window heads. Instead of the lintel appearing to bear on nothing, the concrete or stone should visually extend beyond the clear opening to “bear” on the masonry to either side.

Re: Handsome Chinese resort employs local crafts
Exceptional siting and use of a minimum palette of materials!
My mind's eye keeps wanting to have the fenestration completely fill the spaces between the heavy timber members rather than unitized windows set in an infill of wood siding.....either all glass or all opaque in each instance.

Re: FLLW Cooke House on the market (Virginia Beach, VA)
Cooke is a unique blend of a radial grid hemicycle with a diamond grid bedroom wing, on a very desirable, though at times vulnerable site. A neat house to say the least...the Bermuda roofing is a treat. Pictures 7 and 8 at this link show an evening pic with what appears to be subterranean room benea...

I believe the exterior colors of the house are indicative of the original intent for the interior. Thankfully, the exterior hasn’t been “updated”.

A series of construction photos by Sam Falk of the NYTimes....it should be noted Falk wasn't an architectural photographer, but he admirably captured the essence of the place and Wright within it.
